Statement from AMM President Ralph Groening: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

ATTENTION: AMM Members

March 16, 2020 - The health and safety of our members and staff is paramount to the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM). Given the rapidly evolving situation regarding COVID-19, please be advised that at this time the AMM has decided to cancel our upcoming scheduled municipal visits in both the Parkland and Interlake Districts. The AMM will continue to monitor this situation very closely and re-evaluate our plans regarding other planned municipal visits based on prevailing conditions and expert advice.

Additionally, the AMM has had ongoing daily communication with various provincial government departments - Manitoba Municipal Relations, Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living and Manitoba EMO - regarding COVID-19 preparedness protocols and communication tools for municipalities. Both the AMM and Province of Manitoba have also been working collaboratively to ensure all Manitobans are receiving consistent and accurate information. In addition to these collaborative efforts, Minister Friesen briefed municipal leaders directly for the second time via teleconference this afternoon on how all Manitobans can remain safe during this situation.

The public is asked to continue to contact Health Links-Info Santé at 204-788-8200 or 1-888-315-9257 (toll-free) for COVID-19 and other health concerns, including international travellers who have developed cold- or flu-like symptoms within the past 14 days of returning to Canada. The AMM continues to urge all Manitobans to frequently visit the Manitoba public health website for the latest updates - please add this link to your respective municipal websites. Furthermore, People First HR Services is also available to field any HR-related questions that you may have. They can be reached at 1-866-899-1340 or HRoncall@peoplefirsthr.com.

In closing, please note that these steps are a precaution, and we urge everyone to continue following the advice of public health authorities. Work flexibility is a key part of AMM's culture, and we are well-prepared to ensure that AMM staff can continue to be available by phone and email during this unprecedented time.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Ralph Groening

AMM President
